Nate Phelps to advance atheism and gay rights in public presentation
Montreal Quebec - (August 17, 2012) - Nate Phelps, the estranged son of “God Hates Fags” pastor Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church, famous for protesting at military funerals in the United States, will discuss the harm of religious hatred, the importance of gay rights and his transformation into an outspoken atheist, in Montreal on Saturday, August 18th.
Nate Phelps will then walk in the Montreal Gay Pride Parade on Sunday, August 19 on behalf of the Centre for Inquiry (CFI), where he works as Calgary Branch Director. CFI is an educational charity promoting scientific and critical thinking, as well as church-state separation and secular humanism.
“Nate Phelps is a personal hero and his story is one of hope and optimism,” said CFI’s National Communications Director Justin Trottier. “He will share his strength and courage as he tells the story of his own upbringing and how he managed to walk away from hate and indoctrination to become a champion for gay rights against religious bigotry.”
