Evolving God: A Provocative View on the Origins of Religion

by Barbara J. King (262 pages)

*4 copies in Toronto Libraries

Charting the evolution of religion , Barbara J. King utilizes research in archaeology, anthropology, and biology to determine how and why religion came into being. She explores the common characteristics between us and our ape ancestry , particularly the striking similarities in our social and emotional behaviour . Through the various stages of evolution, these behaviours increase in complexity and eventually result not only in concepts of the "self" but also those of continuity , as well as emotional ties to the notion of that which is beyond the "self".

Anyone can read the book and join in the discussion!
