Debate: Should we be Vegetarian?
Is it wrong to eat meat? Perhaps it is only a matter of preference whether we choose to eat other animals. In celebration of World Environment Day the Centre for Inquiry will host a lively debate on the ethics of food between Michael Payton and Peter Phua (pro) versus Mitchell Gerskup and Zac Irving (con). The debate will focus on issues of ethics, economics and politics as four veteran debaters butt heads on this important issue.
Michael Payton works at York University. He has conducted research in the areas of Moral Psychology with York, the Schulich Business School and Harvard University. Now an experienced spokesperson for CFI he has debated on radio, television and in print.
Peter Phua has been debating for over 7 years. A widely acclaimed debater even in high school, Peter has now completed his undergraduate degree at York University and now studies Medicine at McMaster. Unique among CFI members he has recently transitioned from being a creationist, conservative and evangelical purely on the basis of argument. He blogs at CFI under the title "Mixed Feelings".
