Another syndicated article features the following heartening words:
The University of Alberta Atheists and Agnostics asked that the university either remove the line or change the wording. The unanimous vote came after a short discussion of the executive committee. Several members said the statement should be updated to reflect a university that is multicultural and secular. "We do need to be more open and tolerant. We are a secular university," said Ric Johnson from the School of Business. He added that changing the charge to remove any reference to God would be a "watershed" moment for the university.
Watershed indeed! If this goes through unimpeded it will be the second such victory on graduation prayers in Canada, following our successful lobbying at the University of Toronto 3 years ago.
Ian Bushfield, who made all this happen, wrote a nice article on his battle, here attached.
Please encourage students across North America to take on this issue. It isn't our highest priority, but we have all the documents we need, we know how to do it, it's a relatively easy success so great for morale, and it will get incredible media attention (over 50 articles across Canada!)
