Science Shows Racism a Human Invention
Canadian Professor Tours Western Canada Promoting Humanity’s Shared African Ancestry
August 10, 2010 – “Regardless of who you are or where you came from—despite ethnic
differences, political distinctions, and racial tensions—we are all African,” writes Canadian Professor Christopher diCarlo, whose lecture tour We Are All African, sponsored by the educational charity Centre for Inquiry (CFI), will hit Calgary, Kelowna and Vancouver between August 11 - 13, 2010
TV Ontario’s Best Lecturer 2008 and Centre for Inquiry (CFI) Advisory Fellow, diCarlo will speak on the subject of humanity’s common evolutionary descent and the prospects it yields for harmony around the globe. He argues that recognition of this fundamental commonality can remove barriers to human unity.
“We are all African,” he proudly declares. “In these four words lies the truth of our human ancestry. But it is not easy for some to accept this truth. In these four words we can learn a great deal about ourselves and our place on this planet.”
First examining the evidence that has allowed anthropologists to trace the lineage of human descent back to eastern Africa, diCarlo will go on to draw the philosophical conclusion that despite the widespread tendency of certain groups to segregate and regard themselves as ‘chosen people’ for religious, racial or ethnic reasons, the evidence that we are all very closely related should undermine these social barriers.
Dr. diCarlo is a past Visiting Research Scholar at Harvard University and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. His presentations across North America have raised awareness of evolutionary theory and funding for the Masai for Africa, an HIV awareness program in Lesotho, Africa.
