Introduction to CFI Ontario Social & Community Services
Centre for Inquiry Ontario has launched a new social services committee, encompassing the following, for which more information on each can be found under "Local Resources/Social & Community Services":
1. Secular Organizations for Sobriety: Also known as Save Our Selves, this program is dedicated to providing a path to sobriety, as an alternative to those paths depending upon supernatural or religoius beliefs. We respect diversity, welcome healthy skepticism, and encourage rational thinking as well as the expression of feelings.
2. Secular Humanist Officiants: We help provide access to humanist officiants, who perform non-religious marriage ceremonies, funerals and child naming ceremonies.
3. Coping Without Religion Support Group: A real life support group for people who are dealing with problems related to leaving organized religion or living without any religion. Currently meets at CFI Ontario every second Sunday from 3-5pm, including Sunday, April 29.
4. Cognitive Quitting for smokers: Starting up again soon, this free quit smoking program is a systematic, step-by-step process that quitters follow to make rational and appropriate choices instead of lighting up. It provides quitters with simple tools and techniques to examine their smoking behavior and disconnect automatic urges to smoke. The method produces lasting results without chemicals or medication.
